I was born in São Paulo, Brazil, the fourth child in a family of six. I started travelling at 10 days of age, due to my father's airforce career. I have lived in several cities in Brazil and also for a few years in Montreal, Canada. I spent several years in the United States working on a graduate degree in Biology. My home is now in Brasilia, Brazil where I am a professor of biology at the University of Brasilia. My artistic debut was at age six, when I received a prize in a children's art contest in Montreal, for depicting the fire dangers associated with playing with matches! I have never stopped drawing and painting, since I first held a piece of charcoal in my hands at age 6 (see below). Painting in my home studio is a welcome respite from an often stressful life, and I treasure the time I spend holding a paintbrush.
